Tuki Tuki Earth Block House

The house is situated on a rural site with extensive views of Hawkes Bay from Haumoana to Paki Paki.

A spur ran across the building site and this was lowered to provide sufficient area for the new house and surrounds.

Views from the covered outdoor area, kitchen, dining room, lounge, family room and master bedroom were requested.

The site is on the eastern side of the Tuki Tuki river in an area which has become popular for lifestyle living. The long driveway to the house leads through vineyards and open farmland.

The house is constructed on a concrete floor slab with a wine cellar basement beneath the service area. Structural walls to the exterior and interior are compressed earth (sand clay cement) blocks cored to take reinforcement and services.

Ceilings to living spaces, bedrooms and main hallway are macrocarpa t g & vee on exposed recycled rimu structural beaming and truss structures.

The roof is corrugated colorsteel.
All exterior joinery is Western Red Cedar sashes and doors in macrocarpa frames.
